4 minutes to the east and is very quaint.
Excellent three Boulangeries (opp.
La poste), Cafe bar, restaurants, artists shops - sculpture, antiques
shops, Abbaye-Ecole de Sorèze
(Royal Military School of King Louis XVI),
banks (CA) Utilé supermarket, hairdressers, pharmacy
(Doctors and Dentists opp. church) lovely car park under plane
trees by la poste.
Walk the paths of the medieval stone walls.
Visit the many Festivals de Sorèze.
Revel. (about 5 mins drive)
The Capital Home of Reproduction French Furniture in France. All
services and many shops. It has a geometric street layout around
a central square surrounded by covered galleries. The 14 C covered
market still has its original timber roof. The market is on a
Saturday and is a must see!!. Revel
has plenty of shopping, cabinet making, a bronze factory
etc etc. There are car parks aplenty and numerous restaurants.
Revel is well equipped with doctors,
dentists the local hospital and ESTATE AGENTS (immobiliers)
There is even an internet cafe to keep in touch if you must!!!
Durfort. (about 10 mins drive)
The black mountains. At the mouth of the narrow steep sided valley
of the Dor. Durfort has many family
businesses creating copper items, (since the 1600's) Some works
of art!! (they do pewter also). The whole town has many attractive
shops. cafes, and restaurants. There are good car parks with toilets.
Durfort Walk. A good
pretty walk is from La Baysse or Sorèze. There are 1000's
of kilometres of walks in the Black Mountains including The route
of St-Jaques de Compostelle and also many pretty villages to visit.
Bassin de Saint Ferréol.
(about 5 mins drive)
This is a beach!! "A la Montagne". Cool waters
from the Black Mountains feed this reservoir of 173 acres between
wooded hillsides. This magnificent lake is ideal for swimming,
sailing or just sitting and taking in the views, Stroll the parks
- woodland surrounding the lake. Visit The rocky waterfalls even
have a picnic here. Try to find the "Upside down Waterfall
"!!!! Take un cafe under the pine trees or lunch at the splendid
restaurants (not expensive!! - trust me!!)

(about 30 mins drive)
A large town . Must visit. It is like a little "Venice".
Take a traditional style barge to see the former Tanners houses
and their dusty pink, lilac and green colours. Enjoy Le Park de
Gourjade (53 hectares). Plan a day in the very Spanish Goya Museum
and Hotel de Poncet.
Golf de Gourjade
(9 holes). A large indoor and outdoor swimming pool with restaurant.
A split level park opposite the tourist
office for a visit to Castres centre with the
River Agout passing near by. Nice.
Sidobre (about 1
hours drive)
Sidobre is east of Castres.
One of the most important Granite sites in Europe. “The
World of Granite” visiters park. Nearby is V.O.A.
Glassworks founded by Jean Jaurès.
Brassac is
a mountain village on the D622 has a magnificent bridge.
Albi (about 70 mins
drive) is the birth place of Toulouse-Lautrec. (1864-1901) and
is worth a day or two to visit the town and museum.
Castelnaudary Canal
Du Midi. Walk.Walk. Beautiful. Wonderful cassoulet...
Toulouse. ( 1 hours
drive).

the renaissance to the twentieth century.

has a collection of Roman sculptures etc

Toulouse Lautrecs. Extensive collection
of over 500 pieces. On the upper floor are other famous names
including Degas - Matisse - Rodin

The fairy tale medieval walled city. Go there, your senses will
shiver when they see the castle and walls. Also well viewed from
a distance.

Set at the foothill of "Lautrec"
is a superb open air swimming pool - sports arena. (open June
- August) Go A Must !!
The Tarn Gorges
See the Michelin Green Guide. This
is 31 miles of jaw dropping scenery. Go!
Cordes - Sur – Ciel
This fortified Village a sumptuous ball of stone curled
upon its mountain perch! Visit.
Averyron
Gorges – Valley. Superb one of our favorite visits very,
very pretty.

Goats Farm ( 20 mins
drive)
Ferme de Chevre Farm shop. Go and
see the kids!!!
Pyrenees Mountain Range
( 2 hrs drive) Climb the mountains. Walk the walks, Search for
the trail that "Hannibal"
took. Ski. See the flora and fauna in abundance. Cross to Spain?
